As a part of the Society’s continued efforts to enhance the impact of our community outreach initiatives, some of our staff travel to give lectures and lead workshops on local history topics.

Workshops/Active Programs
Where do I come from?: Family History for Kids
Learn how to make your own family tree, take an oral history quiz and learn how to start a family archive. This hands-on program demonstrates the many ways one can conduct family research and introduces children to a variety of the primary and secondary sources. This program can be adapted to any age group.
Fun and Games Through the Ages
Learn the history of games you play and play games from back in time. In this hands-on program, students will get out of their seats as they learn the history of many games we play today. They will have an opportunity to play some games from back in time. Can be adapted to any age group.
Lectures
Highlights of the Paterson Evening News Photograph Collection
The Paterson Evening News Collection consists of over 16,000 images, dating from 1946 through 1972. Together these photographs offer an invaluable look at the history of Passaic County and the state of New Jersey. The photographs depict local events, such as ribbon cuttings, floods, and parades, as well as figures and events of national importance. In this presentation, Digitization Specialist Boris Von Faust will provide an introduction to this amazing resource and share some of his favorite images from the collection.
The History of Lambert Castle and the Passaic County Historical Society
A brief history of Lambert Castle and the foundation of the Passaic County Historical Society. Learn the story behind the man who went from mill hand to mill owner and built one of Passaic County’s most iconic buildings.
The Holdings of the PCHS Library/Archives- an Introduction
The PCHS Library encompasses a rich collection of materials related to the history of cities and towns within Passaic County as well as an extensive body of genealogical information on thousands of families who lived in the county. The library contains over 2,800 books, including atlases, city directories, books by local authors, published genealogies, and local histories. PCHS Research Specialist Patrick Byrnes will give an overview of the holdings of the Passaic County Historical Society Library that are most important to local researchers.
Gaetano Federici- A Sculptor’s Legacy
With more than forty of his statues in a two-mile radius of Paterson City Hall, most Passaic County residents are familiar with at least some of his works. This presentation will explore aspects of Federici’s career, his personal life, and his legacy in shaping our community landscapes.
