PATERSON HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES  CLASS OF 1880

 

Thirteen young ladies and three boys were graduated at exercises in the Paterson Opera House. Destroyed by fire in 1902, the Opera House stood where the U.S. Theater is today (as of 1951).

William BUTLER was related to Nicholas Murray BUTLER, who for many years was president of Columbia University and a member of the Paterson Board of Education.

Addie SMITH and Kate SHIRRELL late became elementary and high school teachers in Paterson.

The newspapers listing of graduates was also accompanied by a photograph of these thirteen female graduates and their teacher. Mrs. Offhouse was the mother of Charles D. OFFHOUSE, teacher and supervisor, Eastside High School, Paterson, NJ. The Offhouse Scrapbook is part of the Passaic County Historical Society collections.)
